Your HVAC is a complex and intricate system which can be tricky to understand. That is why our technicians go through extensive training to learn about every single bit and piece that goes into the HVAC, how they work, and how to solve problems.

Read on for all your HVAC answers.
How important is preventative maintenance and do I actually need it?
Preventative maintenance is essential for any homeowner who relies on their HVAC system for their heating and cooling needs. Throughout the year, your HVAC is working around the clock to keep you comfortable and as such, things are bound to need repairs, replacements, tune-ups, or cleaning.
During a preventative maintenance appointment, your HVAC technician can look for any of these issues and take care of them immediately. Even if your unit seems to be in decent condition, we encourage you to have two preventative maintenance appointments a year. This way, the technician can find any problems while they are small, so you can avoid a big and costly breakdown down the road.
When to repair and when to replace?
No HVAC unit will last you forever. Typically, your unit should last between 10-15 years if kept in good condition and used correctly. If your unit is within this age range and you’re having frequent breakdowns, it is likely time to replace. Furthermore, if the cost of a repair is over half of what the cost of a new unit would be, it’s time to spring for the new unit.
How can I save money on energy bills?
This is one of the most common questions we hear, and for good reason! We are always looking for ways to save money on our monthly bills. For starters, try turning the temperature a little cooler or warmer than you typically would, you’d be surprised how much of a difference this can make on your bill.
You can also invest in a smart thermostat which can be programmed to fit your schedule and heat or cool your home accordingly, saving energy throughout the day. Finally, a great way to keep the HVAC efficient is simply by using it as was intended and continually performing maintenance. Be sure to schedule routine preventative maintenance appointments and change your air filters regularly.
What is a SEER rating?
SEER, or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, measures how much energy an AC unit will use in one year. This number allows you to compare efficiency between units when choosing which to install in your home. The higher the number, the more efficient the system!
What size system does my home require?
Believe it or not, HVAC units are not one-size-fits-all appliances. If your unit is too big, it will have too much power and cool your house more than it needs to, resulting in higher energy bills. The extra air could also cause a moisture build up and encourage mold growth. If the unit is too small, it won’t be able to heat or cool your whole home the way you need it to.
When choosing your HVAC, the technicians at Dunes Heating and Air Conditioning, LLC will be sure to provide you with the proper sized unit to fit your home.
